The
Main Bazaar, comprising a row of two-storey shop houses on
one of Kuching's oldest streets (dating back to 1864), is
heaven on earth for souvenir shoppers and bargain hunters.
The
handicraft shops are stacked floor to ceiling with cultural
curios and antiques, and are a treasure trove of Iban icons,
Bidayuh bric-a-brac, and Orang Ulu ornaments.
Even
older than the old-fashioned facade of the shop houses are
the antique brassware, ceramics, tribal and ethnic arts and
crafts, woodcarvings, traditional masks, blowpipes, shields,
and mementos of the Brooke Raj.
